Wisdom Teeth Surgery

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, typically emerge between the ages of 17 and 25. When there isn't enough room for them to grow properly, they can become impacted, causing pain, infection and damage to surrounding teeth. Our team provides expert wisdom teeth assessment and removal to keep your smile healthy.

Why Would I Need My Wisdom Teeth Removed?
+
-

Wisdom teeth may need to be removed for a number of reasons, including:

  • Impaction — the tooth is trapped beneath the gum or growing at an angle.
  • Crowding — there is not enough room, pushing other teeth out of alignment.
  • Infection or decay — the tooth is partially erupted and difficult to clean, leading to recurring infections.
  • Pain or discomfort — ongoing pain in the jaw or surrounding area.

During your consultation, we will take an x-ray to assess the position of your wisdom teeth and discuss the best course of action with you.

What Does the Procedure Involve?
+
-

For straightforward cases, we can extract wisdom teeth under local anaesthetic right here at our Fairfield practice. The area is numbed so you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

For more complex or impacted wisdom teeth, patients often prefer to see a specialist oral surgeon or have the procedure done under general anaesthetic in a hospital setting. We can arrange a referral for you quickly and easily.

Recovery & Aftercare
+
-

After your wisdom teeth removal, we will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. We can also supply extra gauze, pain relief and antibiotics if needed to ensure your comfort and a smooth recovery.

Most patients recover within a few days, and we will schedule a follow-up appointment to check your healing progress.
